My topic, perhaps not surprisingly considering the nature of GraphStream's business, is the world of data infrastructure. This topic is sufficiently vast that I don't expect to run out material anytime soon.

Just what do I mean by "data infrastructure", anyway? The world's organizations are collectively both producing and consuming a rapidly expanding and increasingly diverse set of data services. Most of these services are being built on top of scalable core data infrastructure platforms, each of which provides basic, general-purpose functional capacity for a wide range of specific applications.

These core infrastructure platforms comprise interconnected modules of services, software, and hardware. As you can see elsewhere on this site, we describe each of these building blocks using the following categories: storage, processing, networking, management, and facilities.

Because data infrastructure is increasingly essential to the basic functioning of organizations of all types and sizes, it follows that for a large and growing number of organizations, choices about this infrastructure have strong effects on how competitive and successful the organization will be.

In this blog I will be writing about some of these infrastructure choices. My goal is to add some value for people who are involved in making such choices, by providing useful information on some of the many available options.
